Cognition as a service

Automation processes, big data, machine learning, AI, all of them will collide in a single concept: Cognitive Assistants, like Watson, Siri, Google Now, Cortana or Amazon Echo, they just born and from it´s nature they will be progammed to trigger a tranversal layer in our occupations and day-to-day taks.

In fact Service Science is the new framework started by Jim Spohrer that try to understand and match what will happen when you develop your coexistence, living and working from general purpose machines to those ones that will be specialized for most of the tasks that was scheduled to us from the industrial era.

We can understand it as the study of the evolving of nested networked service system entities, and their capabilities, constraints, rights and responsabilities as they apply knowledge for mutual benefit, in this case the entities of interest are those capable of knowledge-based and value co-creation interactions.

Certantly we came from manufactoring so-called service sector wich includes human services, such a goverment health care, and education; business services, such a finance, information and construction; consumer or experience services, such a retail, hospitality and entertainment; and basic services, such a utilities, communication, transportation and housing.

Thus, a dilema of massive proportions is emerging between the technology evolution and the model of economy; the business and goverments wich gave rise to the market for Jobs for money first place are now destroying Jobs for money, as a result of their responsability to stakeholders to perform efficiently and at the highest levels of quality in a task economy.

On one hand there is no law that says an innovation must create more that it destroys, as a taxpayer, I want my goverment to perform all tasks with the major productivity and quality as long as the innovation processes are sustainable and comply with laws.

On the other hand, as a shareholder,I want my goverment to perform all tasks with the major productivity and quality as long as the innovation processes are sustainable and comply with laws.

That´s the contradiction, we live in the queu of industrial era where the specialization is a characteristic of the task economy, and like any process of task decomposition, it eventually leads to automation, this topic is ultimately what makes people act like machines and hence make this work obsolete.

Initiatives raised by EU like the Commission on Civil Law Rules on Robotics try to look for alternatives where the productivity of robots can be profited as a taxpayer. What´s the problem if we can ensure our sustanibility paid by robots? consenquently the salaries will be down but the price of good and services will be dropped as well. Everybody wins.

Recently McKinsey analyzed the detailed work activities for more than 800 occupations from across the economy to assess the percentage of time spent on activities with the technical potential for automation by adapting currently demonstrated technology.

More than a fact it´s a reality, we have to assume that in the next decade the vast amount of tasks performed by humans will be replace by Cognition Services, that means that it will push you to rethink your current work and consequently train your new skills that it has nothing to do with your industrial thinking that you were used to use.

In a short term (4 years) will be a drastic change according to the skills needed by the World Economic Forum review, where the creativity and critical thinking will jump rapidly.

This is not just a question of changing skillset. It´s a changing of mindset.

We can think in the algoritmh search engine provided by Google 20 years ago, how many jobs were lots beacuse of this technology? How can you measure the benefit in each action in your life and work at anytime? Can we approach the Cognitive Assistants in this sense? Maybe could be facing the most productive period in the history of humanity?

We are moving rapidly between an economy task-centered towards to people-centered (finally), truly this is the biggest change that is coming and that´s the real reason that we have to understand from now, this kind of technology will be here to help us not to replace nothing, the big challenge is to be prepared to change your mindset and skills before the future shock comes.

In this adaptation of the rate of change we may spend the greatest crisis to date, once passed, will enter a stage with a level of productivity without limit, hence It will be a great time to human centered.

“Machines can improve ourselves in all less one thing, to be human, we have to use the machine to achieve a real human progress”.
